Cervical Spondylosis
Treatment – Nasya with Karpasasthyadi Thailam

Background and Description
A 35-year-old young Software Engineer presented with severe pain and swelling in the neck, shoulders, and back of the head which severely restricted his neck and shoulder movements making him continue working on the computer and giving up his job temporarily. He was seen by GP and NHS consultant and had several physiotherapy sessions privately which did not help him at all.
Signs and Symptoms:
Pain: +++ (6-7/10 on VAS)
Tingling and numbness in the left hand
Movements: Restricted- reduced neck and shoulder movements
Investigations: X-ray- showed marked disc degeneration and bulge in C6-7
Ayurveda Treatments:
The treatment approach for this patient included a combination of internal and external treatments
Internal Treatment:
- Trayodashang Guggul 2 tablets twice a day along with 20ml Rasna-Erandadi Kashaya was given twice a day after meals.
- Lakshadi Guggul– 2 tablets with warm water twice a day
External Treatments:
- Local massage with Choorna Pinda Sweda (Ayurvedic hot bag massage) x 10 sessions
- Nasya with Karpasasthyadi Thailam- 10 sessions
Results:
The pain was completely cured by the 9th session. The tingling and numbness were completely reduced by the 6th session. The range of movement vastly improved and came back to normal by the 10th session. Complete remission by the 10th session. The patient was given a set of Yoga postures and exercises as well Ayurvedic nasal drops to follow an internal medication to continue for further 3 months. No relapse in 3 monthly follow-ups.
