Yoni Dhavana
Introduction
It is a special treatment modality in Ayurveda where medicated decoction is administered through the vaginal route in females. This comes under local treatment modalities specific to gynecological diseases. It is a procedure in which the vagina, vaginal passage, and mouth of the uterus are washed with medicated decoction or other liquids. The term Yoni Dhavana comprises two different words “Yoni (means vagina) and “Dhavana (means cleaning or purification with water and other medicated liquid).

Mode of Action of Yoni Dhavana
During Yoni Dhavana, the medicated Kashaya i.e herbal decoction is partially absorbed by the vaginal walls. Because of its slightly warm temperature and its medicinal properties, it removes the abnormal discharges from the vagina and also helps to alter the vaginal pH making the area unfavourable for invasion of microorganisms.
