Mode Of Action Of Netra Tarpana
The therapeutic action of Netra Tarpana depends on
- The nourishing effect of the medicine
- The pharmacological action of the selected medicine.
- The bioavailability of the medicine
- The maintained temperature during the procedure
For performing the Tarpana karma, always lipid medium is preferred. As the name indicates the procedure is a nourishing procedure where the ghee used will be breaking the three barriers of the eye (blood-aqueous barrier, blood-retinal barrier, blood vitreous barrier) and entering the circulation. Thus it nourishes the eyes.
As the medicated ghee enters the eyes, the pharmacological action of the medicines processed in the ghee will be successfully exhibited. All the herbs used for the processing of the ghee will be eye enriching and eye supportive. Hence when the active principles of these medicines along with the molecular constituents of ghee enter the circulation by breaking the barriers of the eye the pathology will get corrected.
The ghee which is poured is made to stay for nearly 30mins which means the bioavailability of the medicine is high which helps the active ingredients to pierce the barriers successfully. The tissue contact of the active principles is for a longer duration which helps in the effectual absorption of the principles in the ghee.
The temperature of the treatment is maintained in a lukewarm state which intensifies the potent absorption of the active ingredients of the medicine through the active metabolism in the eye.
